Zhoushan City is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Province. It is the first prefecture-level city in China established with archipelago system. Zhoushan is located at the intersection of China's eastern golden coastline and the Yangtze River golden waterway, and is China's largest archipelago and an important port city.
Lianyungang, formerly known as Haizhou, is a prefecture-level city in Jiangsu Province, China. Located on the central coast of China, it borders the Yellow Sea to the east and connects to Xuzhou and Suqian to the west. The city covers a land area of 7,615 square kilometers and a sea area of 7,516 square kilometers. As of 2024, Lianyungang has a permanent population of 4.5817 million. The city is known for its coastal scenery and has two national 5A-level scenic spots: Liandao and Huaguo Mountain, along with 14 4A-level scenic areas.
Harbin (Manchu: ᡥᠠᠯᠪᡳᠨ, Mulinde transliteration: Halbin), also known as Habu[5] or Hashi, is located in the northern part of China's Northeast Plain. It is the capital of Heilongjiang Province, the People's Republic of China,[6][7][8], a sub-provincial city, and an important regional center city in Northeast China.[7] Harbin is the political, economic, cultural and foreign-oriented center of northern Northeast China. It is also the largest city in China with the third largest registered population among provincial capitals.[9][8] The city's administrative area covers an area of 10,198 square kilometers.[10] The municipal government is located at No. 1 Century Avenue, Songbei District. It has 45 ethnic minorities and a variety of religious cultures. It is the only city in China where Buddhism, Taoism, Catholicism, Orthodoxy, Christianity, and Islam coexist. [11] Harbin is located in the southern part of Heilongjiang Province. It has a temperate continental monsoon climate with an average annual temperature of only 5.2℃. The winter is cold and long, and the summer is warm and short. It is a winter ice and snow tourism and summer resort. It is famous for its annual International Ice and Snow Festival and its strong European style. It is also one of the first batch of excellent tourist cities in China[12] and a famous historical and cultural city in China[13]. Due to its geographical location, Harbin was a bridgehead for Tsarist Russia and the Soviet Union to connect with China and the Far East in the first half of the 20th century. It is also an important international trade city in northern China and one of the earliest international cities in China in the 1920s[14]. Harbin's urban architectural style is still deeply influenced by it. Various European-style buildings brought by early Russian, Eastern European, Jewish and other immigrants are scattered throughout the city. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was gradually transformed into a central city with both industry and commerce. Today, Harbin still occupies an important position in international trade[15] and is the permanent rotating host city of the China-Russia Expo[16]. Harbin is known as the pearl of the Eurasian Continental Bridge and is an important hub of the First Eurasian Continental Bridge and the Sky Corridor[8]. According to the "Plan for Border Development and Opening-up in Northeastern Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia" approved by the State Council in 2013[17], Harbin is the center of the border development and opening-up channel, a regional central city in Northeast Asia[18], and also the core city in the northern part of the Harbin-Changchun urban agglomeration. The 9th Asian Winter Games will be held in Harbin in 2025[19].
Lijiang City, [21] is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Yunnan Province, China. It borders Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture and Panzhihua City in Sichuan Province to the east, Jianchuan, Heqing, and Binchuan counties of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture and Dayao and Yongren counties of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture to the south, Lanping County of Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture to the west and Weixi County of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture to the north. [131] Lijiang City has a total area of 20,600 square kilometers, [132] and has one district and four counties under its jurisdiction. [19] Naxi, Mosuo, Yi, and Yunnan dialects are spoken in the city. [54] [119] As of the end of 2024, the permanent population of Lijiang City is 1.25 million. [220] Lijiang City is located on the southeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the northwest Yunnan Plateau, [20] and has a semi-humid low-latitude plateau mountain monsoon climate. [30] The rivers in the territory belong to two major river basins and three major water systems. In the Shu Han period, Lijiang was established as Suijiu County. In the Yuan Dynasty, the Chahanzhang Civil Affairs Office was first established, and later changed to Lijiang Xuanweisi, Lijiang Road Military and Civil Administration Office. In the early Ming Dynasty, Lijiang Prefecture was established. In the Qing Dynasty, Lijiang Military and Civil Affairs Office was established. In December 1949, Lijiang People's Administrative Commissioner's Office was established, and in April 1950, it was changed to Lijiang Commissioner's Office. [5] Lijiang City has an integrated comprehensive transportation system with roads as the main body, and railways, civil aviation, and water transportation connected. The transportation in the territory is convenient. [90] It is the political, economic and cultural center of northwest Yunnan, and a distribution center for materials on the "Southern Silk Road" and the "Ancient Tea Horse Road". [5] Lijiang City has three world heritage sites, [201] multi-ethnic and multi-religious coexistence, [29] above-ground and underground cultural relics are widely distributed, [128] and rich tourism resources. [59] As of 2021, there are 199 fourth-level cultural relics protection units. There are 11 national-level sites, 14 provincial-level sites, 56 municipal-level sites, and 118 county (district)-level sites. [11] There are 104 tourist attractions in the territory, with more than 13,000 species of animals and plants, making it one of the country's famous animal and plant protection bases. [219] Lijiang City has a variety of ethnic cultures and folk activities. For example, the Bangbang Festival and the Sanduo Festival of the Naxi people on the 15th day of the first lunar month, the Torch Festival of the Yi people, and the Kuoshi Festival of the Lisu people. [59] In 2024, Lijiang City will achieve a regional GDP of 71.003 billion yuan, an increase of 4.7% over the previous year.
Nanjing City (English: Nanjing City), abbreviated as Ning, also known as "Jinling", "Jiankang" and "Stone City", is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, China, the capital of Jiangsu Province [284], a sub-provincial city, and a megacity [403]. It is located in the southwest of Jiangsu Province and the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It is a city in the central area of the Yangtze River Delta [1]. Nanjing City has a northern subtropical humid monsoon climate, with distinct four seasons, abundant rainfall, short spring and autumn, long winter and summer, and a large annual temperature difference. It is known as the "natural geological museum". There are many geomorphic units such as Yangtze River floodplain, water-rich soft soil, hills, and karst [9]. The total area is 6587.04 square kilometers. As of December 2023, Nanjing City has 11 districts [499]. At the end of 2024, Nanjing City has a permanent population of 9.577 million [493]. The Nanjing dialect is Jianghuai Mandarin [462]. Nanjing is an important central city in eastern China approved by the State Council, a national historical and cultural city, an international comprehensive transportation hub, a national advanced manufacturing base, an eastern industrial innovation center, a regional science and technology innovation highland, an eastern modern service industry center, a regional shipping and logistics center, and the headquarters of the Eastern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army. Nanjing is known as the "ancient capital of six dynasties" and the "metropolis of ten dynasties". The cultural influence of the city reaches the entire East Asia [284]. There were ancient human activities in the Nanjing area 1 to 1.2 million years ago. Nanjing was built in the late Shang Dynasty more than 3,100 years ago [461]. Nanjing was established as the capital in the first year of Huanglong in the Eastern Wu Dynasty (229 AD). On April 23, 1949, Nanjing was liberated. In 1953, it was designated as the capital of Jiangsu Province, and in 1994 it was designated as a sub-provincial city [6]. The four pillar industries of steel, petrochemicals, automobiles, and electronics are the "basic plate" of Nanjing's economy. Nanjing is one of the top ten cities in the country in terms of economy and manufacturing. It is a “nationally important regional financial and business center” as defined by the National Development and Reform Commission. It is the only pilot city in the country for comprehensive reform of the science and technology system and the first “Chinese Software City” in China. [327] In 2024, Nanjing will achieve a regional GDP of 1,850.081 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.5%.
Taiyuan City, abbreviated as "Bing", was called Jinyang in ancient times, and is also known as Bingzhou and Longcheng. [130] It is a prefecture-level city, provincial capital, and Type I large city under the jurisdiction of Shanxi Province, China. [131] [284] It is located in the central part of Shanxi Province and the northern end of the Jinzhong Basin. The city is located between 111°30'~113°09' east longitude and 37°27~38°25' north latitude. The total area is 6,988 square kilometers, accounting for about 4.5% of the total area of Shanxi Province. [133] As of the end of 2022, the city's permanent population is 5.435 million. [132] As of the end of 2023, Taiyuan City has 6 districts, 3 counties, and 1 city under its jurisdiction. [135] The Municipal People's Government is located at No. 69, Xinjian Road, Taiyuan City. [136] The Taiyuan dialect belongs to the Taiyuan dialect of the Central District of Shanxi dialect. [174] Taiyuan City is surrounded by mountains on the east, west and north, and the Fenhe River valley plain is in the central and southern parts. The entire terrain is high in the north and low in the south. [134] Located in the interior of the continent, it has a warm temperate continental monsoon climate, with cold winters and hot summers, short springs and autumns, large temperature differences between day and night, and little and concentrated precipitation. [263] The discovery of the "Gujiao Paleolithic Cultural Site" shows that humans have lived in the Taiyuan area as early as 100,000 years ago. In ancient times, it belonged to Jizhou. [130] The Qin Dynasty established Taiyuan County in Jinyang, marking the beginning of the establishment of Taiyuan County. In 1948, the Chinese People's Liberation Army successively liberated various counties in Jinzhong and marched to the gates of Taiyuan. On September 1, 1949, the Shanxi Provincial People's Government was established and Taiyuan City was changed to a provincial-level city. Heihe City is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Heilongjiang Province, China. It was called Aihui in ancient times. It is located in the northern part of Heilongjiang Province, at the eastern end of the Greater Khingan Range and the northern part of the Lesser Khingan Range. The area is full of rolling mountains and has a cold temperate continental monsoon climate. The total area is 68,726 square kilometers. As of October 2022, the city has jurisdiction over 1 urban district, 2 counties, and administers 3 county-level cities. [1] At the end of 2023, Heihe City had a permanent population of 1.23 million and a registered population of 1.504 million. [50] Heihe City has a long history. Archaeological evidence shows that humans were active here as early as the Paleolithic period, forming the basis of the local ancient indigenous peoples. On February 8, 1993, Heihe was abolished as a prefecture and established as a city. Taking the centerline of the main channel of the Heilongjiang River as the boundary, Heihe faces Blagoveshchensk (Hailabo), the capital of the Amur Oblast, the third largest city in the Russian Far East, across the Heilongjiang River [49]. They are the only pair of cities on the Sino-Russian border that are the largest, highest-standard, most fully-functional, and closest, with the closest distance being only 750 meters. [1] Heihe City is rich in cultural resources, including the ruins of the ancient city of Aihui, the ruins of the ancient city of the Jin Dynasty, the remains of the Sun Wu war, the remains of historical figures and the customs of ethnic minorities. Wuhan, abbreviated as "Han", also known as Jiangcheng, is one of the megacities[7][8] and national central cities[9] of the People's Republic of China. It is the capital of Hubei Province and a sub-provincial city[10]. It is the largest city in central China and the middle reaches of the Yangtze River[11]. It is also the political, economic, financial, commercial, logistics, scientific, cultural, educational center and transportation and communication hub of the central region[12]. It is a national historical and cultural city[13] and is known as the "crossroads of nine provinces"[14]. Wuhan is the economic and geographical center of China, one of the three major "inland waterway shipping centers" in China, and one of the railway hubs, aviation hubs and highway hubs with the largest passenger volume in China. The "golden waterway" Yangtze River and its largest tributary Han River run through the city, dividing Wuhan into three parts, forming a pattern of three areas of Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang across the river, which are collectively referred to as the "three towns of Wuhan" in history. The Municipal People's Government is located at No. 188 Yanjiang Avenue, Jiang'an District. The city has 13 districts under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 8,569.15 square kilometers. By the end of 2023, the permanent population will be 13.774 million, and the annual GDP will be 2001.165 billion yuan.
