From December 17, 2024, China will extend all the original 72-hour and 144-hour transit visa exemptions to 240 hours (10 days), which are applicable to eligible foreigners. They can stay in the country for up to 10 days and can travel across provinces in 24 designated areas of provinces/cities.
Currently, there are 55 countries that meet the conditions, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Russia, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, etc. ([wb.beijing.gov.cn][2]).
Special note: From June 12, 2025, Indonesian citizens will join the applicable countries ([visainchina.com][3]).
The 240-hour visa exemption applies to 60 open ports across the country, including airports, railways and ports, such as Beijing Capital, Daxing, Shanghai Pudong Hongqiao, Guangzhou Baiyun, Shenzhen Baoan, Chengdu Tianfu, Haikou Meilan, Chongqing Jiangbei, etc.
The policy applies to 24 provinces/municipalities/autonomous regions, including newly added provinces (Shanxi, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hainan, Guizhou). You can travel freely across provinces in the designated areas of these regions.
The "240 hours" starts from 00:00 on the next day of entry**. For example, if you enter on April 1, the calculation starts from 00:00 on April 2 and ends before 24:00 on April 11.
Passport: valid for at least 3 months.
Connecting flight ticket: must be a connecting flight ticket to a third country/region within 240 hours after entry, with seat confirmation.
Apply for processing upon entry: apply to the border inspection at the port and fill in the entry card.
During the visa-free stay period, passengers can travel, do business, visit relatives, visit, etc., but cannot engage in work, study, news interviews, and other activities that require a special visa ([wb.beijing.gov.cn][2]).
Yes. There is no limit on the number of times and the total number of days, but it must be in accordance with the reason for entry and the scope of stay each time.
You need to apply for a visa or extension in advance from the local public security exit and entry department before staying in **, otherwise it will be considered illegal stay.
At Chongqing Airport and other ports, you only need to show your ID and connecting ticket at the border inspection counter of Terminal T3 and fill in the entry card to go through the entry procedures.
Yes, you need to register for accommodation at the hotel or public security police station where you are staying within 24 hours of entering.
Absolutely. One of the characteristics of this policy is cancelling cross-provincial restrictions, such as traveling to Beijing, Chengdu and other places after entering from Shanghai.
